If you want to learn playing guitar, you might think you have to take regular lessons but the acoustic guitar is actually one of the the easiest instruments to learn as there are many resources available.
All in all, is there anyone who doesn’t want to learn to play the acoustic guitar?
There are some main routes one can take to learn playing the acoustic guitar. One way is to teach your self using different resources including books, chord sheets, movies and interactive lessons from the internet or DVD’s. A second way would be to find out if any of your friends or family have played the instrument before and could possibly help you learn the necessary skills to start playing. Finally, you can take professional lessons from an instructor in either a group setting or in one-on-one lessons. This last option is often pretty expensive and not always the best way to go.
Whichever way you take to learn the fundamentals of acoustic guitar playing there is something you must ask yourself before you even pluck a string: Why do you want to play the guitar? Do you want to be the lead solo guitarist in a band? Do you want to try and make a living off of being a professional guitar player or do you want to simply learn for the sake of learning? Answering this question will allow you to reflect on the level of commitment you want to give to this new hobby of yours and will help you decide what path could be best for you.
I strongly recommend you to get your own acoustic guitar to begin your guitar lessons. You could borrow or even rent one at first but you really should have your own to practice when you have some time over. Additionally, owning an acoustic guitar helps you get used to playing the guitar, which I recommend for everyone. Prior to your guitar lessons, you should contemplate your level of commitment. Think about how many hours per day you can dedicate to learn how to play the guitar. This helps you set your priorities and figure out how much you really want to learn about guitar playing. It will take some time but if you play for a while everyday or as often as you can, you will learn pretty quickly.
It is advisable to know your level of priority towards guitar playing. If you are quite serious about learning, you will probably play until your fingers bleed, which is NOT recommended (it hurts). You remind yourself of your reasons in the first place for learning to play guitar. Is it just for fun or do you want to play for real? It’s all up to you. But all-in-all: it IS fun to play!
This is one of the DVD’s I used myself and I can absolutely recommend it.

Beginning Lessons
When you want to learn playing an instrument there are many different ways to go. You can offcourse take a class or hire someone to teach you this instrument or you could by books and sit at home. This is totally up to you.
In my opinion the easiest way to learn playing this instrument by yourself is to get a DVD that focuses on your instrument of choice. I myself wanted to play the acoustic guitar, and after trying a few books I decided to try out a DVD instead and it turned out to be a huge difference for my learning. The difference is that a book only shows you how to do it on paper and text and the DVD has a voice and a screen so you can really the how to hold your fingers and what the chord should actually sound like. They take you through the entire songs bit by bit and after a while you actually know how to play these songs for yourself.
Just think about being able to pick up the guitar while sitting around the camp fire or the garden party and play a few songs, that is a pretty cool way to impress your family and friends.
Now there are offcourse a few videos on youtube and such that has guitar courses and they might be free, but that does not mean that they are good. I myself found it to be well spent money in buying a DVD and now I actually play the guitar pretty good and I even joined a band playing covers on partys and such. I personally recommend getting a DVD on how to play the acoustic guitar. It will really help you.
